Praise heals.
It makes room for God to move. I know this from personal experience, I shared in an earlier post.
Scripture tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. But we also know that praise doesn’t always come easily.
There are times when the pain or uncertainty of life shuts down any desire to lift our voice.
Maybe that’s where you are right now, facing an unexpected or unpleasant season. You want to go to God, but you just don’t have the strength or inclination.
I’ve been there.
And here’s what I’ve learned: those are the very moments when we need to praise God the most.
The enemy wants you discouraged and ashamed. He wants to keep you heavy and distracted. Because the longer he keeps you in that place, the longer it takes to walk in your victory.
That’s what birthed the idea for the 7-Day Prayer & Praise Challenge—a call to fight discouragement with declaration.
To worship, even if it begins with a whisper.
To remind ourselves that God is still worthy, even when life feels weighty.
Because praise isn’t about how we feel.
It’s about who God is.
Here are 7 powerful reasons to praise God in every circumstance. Whether you’re on the mountaintop or deep in the valley, these truths can reframe your heart and refocus your hope.
1. Praise Changes Our Perspective
Praise lifts our eyes. It takes the focus off ourselves and places it on God.
Suddenly, what felt insurmountable looks small next to His power and glory.
When we praise, we begin to see things as they truly are—through the lens of eternity, not emotion.
2. Praise Invites the Presence of God
The Bible says God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).
That means when we praise, the very presence of God draws near.
In Acts 16:25–26, Paul and Silas were in prison, but they didn’t complain. They prayed and praised, and their chains fell off.
“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken.
At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”
— Acts 16:25–26 (NIV)
Praise and prayer are a powerful strategy.
3. Praise Gives God Room to Be God
When we worship, we surrender. We give God room to manifest His glorious majesty over our life and situation. We say, “God, You’re in charge—not me.”
Praise is a spiritual act of returning Lordship to its rightful place. And when this happens, praise makes obedience easier, because we know we are His beloved creation.
Psalm 100:3 reminds us:
“Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.”
When God is on the throne of our hearts, following Him because the obvious choice. Then we know we are His, and we can trust Him.
4. Praise Builds Faith and Joy
Praise fills us with reminders of God’s goodness.
As we speak out who He is and what He’s done, our faith grows.
It becomes evidence of things hoped for, and the joy of the Lord becomes our strength.
5. Praise Silences the Enemy
“Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.”
Psalm 8:2 (NIV)
One of the enemy’s favorite tactics is accusation, trying to convince you
“God has forgotten you.”
“Nothing will ever change.”
“You’re not worthy.”
But praise shuts him up.
When we lift up the name of Jesus, we drown out the lies with truth.
Even a whispered, “Lord, I trust You” sends the enemy running. Because praise isn’t just noise, it’s spiritual resistance.
So the next time you feel under attack mentally, emotionally, or spiritually, try lifting up praise instead of spiraling into anxiety.
Let worship be your warfare. This song captures it beautifully.
6. Praise Is a Weapon in Battle
One of my favorite examples is the story of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20.
Three nations joined forces to attack Judah. The odds were impossible. But the king declared a fast, sought God, and prayed. He reminded God of his supreme power and how he had delivered Israel in times past.
God responded:
“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
2 Chronicles 20:15
Then, in a stunning move, Jehoshaphat appointed singers to lead the army into battle. Like, who does that, right? But it was a strategic move.
As the people praised, God ambushed their enemies, and they were defeated.
Maybe that’s what you need today: a reminder that no battle is too big for God.
He just needs you to trust Him and keep praising.
7. Praise Refocuses Our Heart and Brings Peace
When our hearts are heavy, we usually want two things:
-
To see the problem resolved
-
Or to escape from it entirely
But there’s a third, more powerful path: praise.
Praise works even better because it refocuses our heart even when the issues persist. It may not change our situation, but it changes us. Apostle Paul says:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”
Philippians 4:6–7
Praise shifts our focus, calms our souls, and opens us to peace.
Start Your Day with Praise
What a gift we’ve been given to praise the Most High God at all times.
To know He sees us, hears us, and walks with us.
Psalm 100:4–5 says:
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving; go into His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation.”
