When I’m amongst other Christians or in church circles, the most common prayer points are usually from people seeking prayers for God’s direction and wisdom.
This makes sense since prayers for direction permeate every aspect of our lives.
We need God’s help to know what to do, per time and the right decisions to make.
But these sorts of prayers can also be overwhelming.
The most obvious questions are;
“how do I pray for direction?”
“How do I ask for revelation and wisdom?”
We may be trying to figure out what to say, how to say it, and when to know what God is saying.
For the past few weeks, I have been sharing tips on prayer, including one thing we must all pray for and five prayer strategies to help us focus on God’s will for our lives.
One thing I have found about prayer is that it is more effective for us when we pray in line with God’s word.
When our prayers are backed by scriptures and the promises of God to his children, it reminds us of what God says, what he has done in the past, and what he is able to do in our lives and the lives of others.
Does this mean that we cannot pray without using scripture? Absolutely not!
Prayer is a conversation with God, which means it can happen with or without scripture. Many times, we use scripture as a guide and to help us focus on the truth.
Using scriptures to pray points us to specific areas to pray about and also builds up our faith as we are able to fill our hearts and minds with the truth of God’s word. Praying according to God’s word strengthens us in moments of confusion and fear.
Seven Scriptures to help us pray God’s for direction
There are a few scriptures that have played a pivotal role in my spiritual growth. These scriptures have helped in moments of uncertainty, worries, and fears. Here are some of them and a few more to guide our prayers and to act as wonderful reminders of the promises of God’s word and his plans for every single one of us.
Scripture 1:
“…Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
Matthew 6:33-34 (MSG)
Scripture 2
“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4
Scripture 3
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path. “
Proverbs 3: 5-6
Scripture 4
“For we do not have a high priest that is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:15-16
Scripture 5
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
Scripture 6
“Commit to the lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3
Scripture 7
“If you remain in me and my word remains in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.”
John 15:7

Why we need to always pray for God’s direction
I hope reading through the above scriptures has reminded you that God loves you unconditionally and he is still in the business of directing your path.
Sis, one thing I have seen time and again is that God’s way will always be better and we will never regret going His way.
One proviso to praying using God’s word is:
Faith in God.
You have to believe in God and the fulfilment of His word. You have to believe that he is able to direct your path, that he is able to reveal his will for your life as and when due.
Will this be easy? No way. There will be moments of doubt and uncertainty but He is also the Prince of Peace. Pray in faith using and believing in the efficacy of the above scriptures.
I am a living testimony that God answers prayers. There are so many other women like us, who have prayed and continue to pray for God’s guidance and direction.
I pray you do not give up or believe that God will not hear you. Remember that he loves you with an everlasting love and His words says:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11
God had plans for you from the very beginning of time. He knew when and where you would be born, he knew who your parents would be and the sort of life you would have.
He knows you better than anyone else, including yourself. King David understood this and said:
“You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d seen the light of day, the number days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.”
Psalm 139:16(TPT)

I’m so happy I stumbled on this page as I was looking for prayers for directions and in times of uncertainty. I met a guy and fell in love and he’s been very vocal about changing my life for good and starting a business as my job is barely paying. I need God’s direction on knowing what business to venture into so as to not end in waste. Thank you for putting out these scriptures.
