What do you believe about healing?
Do you think it is something some people enjoy but it is not the reality for most Christians including yourself?
One of the core lessons in Reverse the Curse in Your Body and Emotions by Annette Capps is that what you believe about healing will often affect your ability to receive healing.
The author also shares that healing can be physical or emotional.
I recently shared a story of my healing journey and how God supernaturally healed me from an ailment that had been in my body for over 30 years. I am still in awe of God’s goodness.
Reading this book deepened my understanding of healing. It took it from an almost abstract context a thing we often experience to the realisation that it is DONE in Christ, and it is something we can always experience.
Below, I have shared notes and lessons from the book. I pray you are blessed and inspired to seek and experience God’s supernatural healing. Amen
15 Lessons about Healing Every Christian Woman Should Know
-
Keep Your Walls Up
If we don’t guard our spirit and heart, we are open to all kinds of violence and destruction.
“God has not left our spirit or heart wide open to assault and hurt. He gave us a mind with the power of choice as a wall to protect our heart and emotions.”
Our minds contain the walls or gates that guard our hearts because the most important things happen in the heart or spirit.
We must be diligent to guard against attacks on our self-esteem and identity.
“Whoever has no rule over his spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.”
Proverbs 25:28
-
Exercise your decision-making abilities.
This means rejecting any thought that doesn’t align with what God says about us.
The devil is always looking for ways to derail our path and stop us from achieving all that God has purposed.
“For the weapons Corinthians of our warfare are not carnal but might in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
-
Reprogram your mind with the Word of God.
Psalm 1:2-3 says:
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in it season, whose leaf shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.”
I am learning that people end up “in the pits of depression” because they do not guard their minds. They believe anything that comes into their heart. They erroneously believe that if the thought is there then it must be true. This is a lie.
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”
Proverbs 4:23
The word, “Keep” means to – guard and protect with everything you have. It is a military word that presupposes active and constant protection. An army will not leave what they are to guard, nor will they be distracted by other things happening around them.
-
Guard Your Heart
Guarding our hearts means we do not just let our minds wander and think whatever it wants. it also means we rule over our emotions rather than letting them rule over us.
Proverbs 14:30 –
“A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones.”
-
The state of your soul can also lead to sickness.
The author says “…such things as divorce, death of a loved one, or losing a job are all emotionally explosive situations.”
“The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a broken spirit?”
Proverbs 18:14
Where a person is broken in spirit, it is much harder for them to handle anything else, any illness will likely crush them.
“A merry heart doeth good like medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
Proverbs 17:22
Meaning of these words in Strong’s Concordance:
- Merry means to be joyful, to rejoice.
- Good means to make glad, to make a thing good, right or beautiful.
- Medicine means cure or healing.
- Broken means afflicted, stricken, wounded.
- Drieth means withered, shamed, shamefully, confounded.
To stay well, our soul areas must also prosper:
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
3 John 1:2
-
The remedy to a broken spirit is the Word of the Lord.
The joy of the lord gives us strength and His word provide many opportunities to build up the joy and merriness in our hearts.
-
Other people cannot repair your broken walls.
We can’t expect the people who hurt us to be the ones to repair our broken walls. This was a much-needed wakeup call as I believe many of us are guilty of this even if it is done unconsciously. We tend to want those who have wronged us to repair what they have broken.
-
Be wary of these interlopers.
Be wary of trespassers (the enemy’s fruit) within the walls of your heart – bitterness, depression, rejection, unforgiveness, envy, guilt, fear, and sin. The things that should dwell in your city are the fruit of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faith, self-control.
-
Sickness is a curse, not just to the body and mind but also to our finances and relationships.
Sickness puts a strain on relationships and a dent on one’s purse. Mark 5:25-28 (the woman with the issue of blood had spent all she had but was still sick. More so, the nature of her sickness meant that she couldn’t be around people (this goes back to Jewish laws about women’s menstruating. So, the fact that she menstruated for 12 years straight means she was probably not married and was not around other people.
-
Believe that Jesus is Lord over all.
To receive our healing, we must believe that Jesus is Lord over all affliction and sickness. We must believe that he took every pain and sickness we will ever have on the cross of calvary. We received an immaculate exchange of our infirmities for His perfect health.
“…it’s so important to listen closely to the Word and stand on the Scriptures concerning healing before you are attacked with sickness.”
I love the above quote by the author, she teaches preparation and building up our armor so that when sickness or illness rises its ugly head, we have the right words and arsenal to attack it.
-
We must separate our beliefs from our feelings.
What we believe is a choice and one we have the privilege to change. Your feelings are not static and tying your beliefs to how you feel will mean you continually waver in what you believe. You should choose your beliefs and let your feelings come into alignment of what you believe.
-
Jesus suffered so we don’t need to.
Our Saviour and Lord suffered on the cross of calvary, so we do not need to. We do not need to suffer under the yoke of sin or from sickness. He took upon himself the sin and sickness of the world. But we can only access this by believing in who He is and what He did.
-
Activate Your faith!
The woman with the issue of blood didn’t just believe that Jesus can heal, she activated her faith by speaking and acting on it. She touched his garment believing that it was enough to make her whole.
-
The healing power of God is tangible.
It is material and potent. The healing power is not received in the mind but in the spirit. Faith is a currency of the spirit, and this is where our healing is activated. This means we do not need to exercise our minds or mental realm to receive healing. We are to relax and let it flow in and through us.
-
God wants us healed NOW!
We need to realise that God wants us healed now, not later, and he will seek to get that healing to us in any way He can. In Luke 13 our Lord and Saviour heals the woman with the 18th year infirmity.
PRAYER FOR HEALING
The author shares a few prayers for healing. Here is one of them:
PRAYER:
Father God, I believe that your Word is true, and it is forever established in the heavens. I believe that Jesus Christ took away my sickness and my disease by the stripes on His back. Christ has redeemed me from the curse of sickness; therefore, healing is His will for me. I am free from the curse of sickness and disease!
Finally, I recommend you get this book.
It is a short read, just about 110 pages but it is packed with liberating truths as this post shows.
I pray that you receive and enjoy the divine and supernatural healing of the Lord, which is already available to you. Amen
