I have learned from study and personal experience that there are moments when our faith feels fragile.
When the prayers we once prayed with confidence now sound uncertain, and the promises we once held so tightly begin to blur.
Maybe you’ve been there, when it seems like the more you believe, the more life tests that belief.
When the “how long, Lord?” prayers become routine.
When you wonder if your faith is still faith or just habit.
I’ve walked through those seasons too, and I’ve learned that renewing our faith isn’t about starting over, it’s about rediscovering who God truly is.
When our Faith Falters
Peter knew what it meant to have his faith tested.
In Luke 22, Jesus tells him, “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you like wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail.”
And though Peter did deny Jesus three times, that wasn’t the end of his story.
Because when Jesus rose again, He didn’t condemn Peter, He restored him.
Three denials. Three questions.
“Do you love Me?”
And three chances to affirm his faith again.
It’s such a powerful reminder that God doesn’t discard us when our faith falters, He rebuilds us.
When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
Job’s story gives us another perspective.
He was righteous, faithful, and blessed, until everything came crashing down.
And in the middle of his pain, he said words that many of us have whispered in our hearts:
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” (Job 13:15)
Job didn’t understand what was happening. He had more questions than answers.
But even in his grief, he clung to the truth that God is sovereign and just.
And by the end of his story, God not only restored Job but revealed Himself more deeply than ever before.
That’s what renewal looks like; faith refined through fire, not destroyed by it.
The Battle Between Delay and Doubt
One of the hardest parts of faith is waiting — especially when God seems silent.
Abraham understood this deeply.
He was seventy-five when God promised him a son, but twenty-five years passed before Isaac was born.
Can you imagine waiting that long?
The in-between years were filled with doubts, missteps, and detours (remember Hagar and Ishmael?).
Yet even in his weakness, Romans 4:20 says, “He did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.”
Faith isn’t pretending doubt doesn’t exist — it’s choosing to trust God more than the doubt.
Faith Is a Muscle
I once heard someone say, “Faith grows when it’s exercised.”
That’s so true.
You don’t build faith by staying in comfort zones; you build it by obeying God when it’s inconvenient or unclear.
In my own life, I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly.
When God called me to leave a full-time career, I was terrified.
It didn’t make sense.
But obedience led me on a journey of missions, service, scholarships, and now entrepreneurship; all things that stretched me, humbled me, and strengthened my faith.
I learned that faith and obedience are intertwined.
Faith says, “I believe.”
Obedience says, “I will.”
And together, they invite God’s supernatural power into ordinary moments.
Scriptures to Anchor You
- Isaiah 40:31:
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
- Hebrews 11:1:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
- Proverbs 3:5–6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.”
- Romans 8:28:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
How to Renew Your Faith
- Remember God’s faithfulness. Write down past testimonies, they’re proof that He hasn’t failed you.
- Revisit His promises. Meditate on Scripture daily. His Word is faith’s fertilizer.
- Reignite prayer. Talk to God honestly, even if all you can say is, “Help my unbelief.”
- Rebuild through community. Surround yourself with believers who speak life and hope.
- Rest in His timing. The waiting season is not wasted; it’s a workshop for your faith.
Reflection Questions
- Where did I stop trusting God, and why?
- What has God already done that I need to remember today?
- How can I take one small step of obedience this week?
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that sometimes my faith wavers.
I get weary, impatient, and unsure. But I thank You that You are faithful even when I am not. Renew my faith today, Lord. Help me to trust You again, not just with my lips, but with my life. Teach me to walk by faith and not by sight. Amen.
